Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, yesterday, won the PDP governorship election for which two other aspirants, Senator Abubakar Umar Gada and former Minister of Sports, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman also contested.
Announcing the results of the election, chairman of the Sokoto PDP gubernatorial primary election panel, Chief Ezenwo Nyenom Wike, announced that Wamakko scored 956 votes of the 961 votes cast at the primary election while Gada and Suleiman scored zero votes.
Declaring Wamakko as winner, Wike said, “By the powers conferred on me as the Chairman of the Sokoto PDP Gubernatorial Primary Election Panel, I declare Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as the validly elected PDP candidate for the 2012 governorship election, having scored the highest votes cast.”
In his acceptance remark, the governor thanked the PDP national headquarters and the people of Sokoto for granting him yet another opportunity for the party’s ticket.
Meanwhile, the camps of Gada and Suleiman have maintained that there was no primary election in the state.
At a press conference at the residence of Gada, the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Dr. Mahe Dange, said the primary election was a sham in its entirety.
On the other hand, Suleiman Campaign Organisation, in a letter to the chairman of the panel, said the whole exercise was foul.
