Borno guber: A’Court gives judgment today

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri

ABUJA – The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has fixed today to deliver its judgment on an appeal seeking to sack Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, from office.

The case which was lodged before the appellate court by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Goni, is challenging the verdict of the Borno State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal that upheld the election of the governor.

A five-man panel of justices, presided by Justice Mohammed Ladan Tsamiya, yesterday, slated the matter for judgment after they listened to legal arguments from all the parties in the suit.

Whereas the governor through his legal team led by Chief Yusuf Ali, SAN, Dr Alex Iziyon, SAN, and Chukwuma Ekomaro, SAN, yesterday adduced several reasons why the appeal should be dismissed as lacking in merit, counsel to the appellants, Chief Tayo Oyetibo, SAN, urged the court to uphold the appeal and set-aside the judgment of the tribunal.
