Nollywood director Ruke Amata who relocated to the United Kingdom, with his family few years ago, is back in the country to promote his latest film project.
Ruke has been nurturing upcoming African actors in diaspora via his “Class Act UK” reality TV show in recent times.
Part of the format of the reality show is to give the winners an opportunity to act alongside established African stars. In the bid to realise this goal, he has produced and directed a brand new movie titled “The Past Came Calling“, starring the likes of actress Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha, John Dumelo, Oliver Jolliffe, Penelope Bouchot Humbert, Demetri Turin and Class Act UK 2011 winner, Marie Kumba Gomez.
Ruke, in a chat with HVP, during the week said the discrimination that was meted to the blacks by the whites majority in terms of getting movie roles in London prompted his decision to start off the reality show.
‘In London, the blacks are discriminated against, in terms of getting roles in major productions. What I did was to assemble them and advised that we should start off our own productions and by the time, do quality productions and do it long enough such that when the whites behold our productions, they will be forced to incorporate us in their own productions. That’s how I started the ‘Class Act’. Ruke explained.
According to him, the movie, which premieres in London on the 16th of December, and Gambia on 23rd of December, is a romantic story, that deals on the misconception the whites majority have over the blacks in diaspora.
