Olympic team goalkeeper talks tough

Nigeria Olympic team goalkeeper Femi Thomas has assured that they will bounce back against the Junior Teranga Lions of Senegal.

Both teams lost their opener to their North African opponents on the same slim 1-0 goal margin and will face each other on Tuesday at the 45,000 seats Ibn Batuta stadium in Tangiers in a must win survival game.

Thomas who sat on the bench in the 1-0 loss to Morocco on Saturday told SuperSport.com that it will be unfair to write them off after the defeat to the hosts, Morocco.

“I know we are beating Senegal hands down on Tuesday.

“Nobody needs to remind us that it is a must win game, we know that already and will go all out for total victory.

“Senegal, too, lost to Algeria, that will make the game tougher, but we are determine to record a win.

“Hopes are not yet lost, Nigerians should continue to support us till the end.

“It will be most unfair to write us off after just one defeat, we are committed towards making them proud.”

The Ocean Boys goal tender is still upbeat of Nigeria winning the London 2012 Olympics ticket.

“London 2012 Olympics ticket is a must win for us.

“We cannot afford to betray the confidence Nigerians repose in us.

“We want to win it for Nigerians, at least, to make up for the failures of Super Eagles and Super Falcons,” he said.

Nigeria’s last pool A match will be against Algeria on Friday in Marrakech.

Three automatic slots are available at the maiden Caf Under-23 Championship in Morocco.

The fourth placed team will engage yet to be named Asian team for a play-off to determine who takes the additional slot.
