A 31year-old contractor has appeared before an Abuja Magistrate Court for stealing an ATM card belonging to one Mr. Ibrahim O. of Tunduwada Village, Abuja, and withdrew the sum of N28, 000 from the account.
Akintunde Olasende of Zone 9, Lugbe, Abuja, was charged with criminal offence of theft contrary to section 288 of the penal code law.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Jeremiah Elijah, told the court that the complainant reported the case to police on November 10 that the accused stole his ATM card to withdraw his money, and that the accused confessed to the commission of the crime during police investigation.
“That You Akintunde Olasende stole his Skye Bank ATM card and went to Skye Bank Lugbe and withdrew the sum of N28, 000 from his account; when questioned, you were unable to give a satisfactory account. During police investigation you confessed to the commission of the crime and the said money, N28,000 was recovered in your possession”. He said.
However, the accused denied the allegation when the matter came up for hearing and the prosecutor sought for a short date to open his case.
Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 with a reliable surety who must produce evidence of payment of utility bills and reside within the court jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to January 19, 2012, for hearing.
