PPA condemns bomb attack on UN building

By Chris Ochayi
ABUJA— The Progressive Peoples Party, PPA, yesterday, condemned the bomb attack on the United Nations, UN, building in Abuja, noting that the humanitarian work embarked upon by the international bodies ought to have been seen as act of wonderful love to the development of the society as a whole.

The PPA, which stated this in a statement by its National Secretary, Mr. Peter Ojonugwa Ameh, said as an organisation committed to peace and well-being of humanity worldwide, the UN should not be a subject of such attack.

Ameh said: “The United Nations building bomb blast is not an encouraging act, as an international organisation committed to peace and well-being of humanity worldwide should not be a subject of such attack and its staff who were victims of the bomb blast should be protected rather than being engaged in altercation of violence because of the humanitarian work they do.

“Nigeria is one indivisible entity and we all know we have more to gain by staying together rather than being divided. I advise that Boko Haram should accept the dialogue proposal offered by President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.”

The dialogue, he said, “can at times be truly magical. It has the potential to dissolve the current boundaries that presently exist between the Boko Haram sect, Federal Government and the ordinary people of Nigeria who bear the brunt of this consistent, unnecessary and indiscriminate act of violence.”

“Why I strongly recommend that we should toll the part of dialogue towards the resolution of this quandary situation, because in contrast, its involves joining our collective thinking and feeling into a shared pool of meaning which continually flows and evolves, carrying the parties involve into new, deeper levels of understanding none could have foreseen, however collective reflection on these assumptions could further reveal blind spots and incoherence’s from where all aggrieved parties could then free themselves, leading to a greater collective understanding and harmony which the Nation most sincerely need.

“I urged the federal Government to intensify its National reconciliation efforts, these indeed is very difficult times in our Nation history and we must not allow it to break down the spirit of togetherness and never die attitude of the Nigerian people.

“My deepest condolences to all the staff of the United Nation based in Nigeria, on the tragic loss of life and destruction of property in the incident.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have been affected by the deplorable act of terror, especially those families who lost their loved ones in the incident the fortitude to bear the loss.”
