KADUNA – Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna state Monday, marked his 100 days in office with the launch of 186 farming tractors valued at N1.2 billion under the “Kaduna state tractorisation project.”
He however, said that the launch was a tip of the iceberg as more development projects would be executed by his administration.
“What is being done today is a tip of the iceberg. Better days are ahead and we are resolved to lift Kaduna State to greater heights”, Yakowa said.
In a ceremony at Government House, the Governor also commissioned 23 waste disposal trucks, two fire fighting vehicles and assorted drugs for rural dwellers.
Each of the tractor, according to Kaduna state Commissioner of Agriculture Dr Ramalan Giwa, cost N6.45 million, but would be sold to farmers in the state at N2.6 million as both the Federal and Kaduna State governments jointly paid N716.4 million, (about 60 percent) subsidy on the tractors.
“I am happy that we have so far distributed over 36,000 metric tones of fertilizer through out the 23 local governments.
‘’Our early arrangement has made Kaduna State the best in terms of quantity and timeliness of distribution of fertilizers in the whole country,” he said, adding that agriculture was one of his priority programmes, even as he announced that government would continue to sell kerosene through the kero-direct scheme in the local government councils at N50 per litre.
