The second edition and final leg of EU-Babylon International workshop on film kicked off in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Wednesday, September 21 and will run till October 4, 2011.
According to a statement from the secretariat of EU-Babylon International, 13 film projects which made it after the first leg selection process in Berlin, Germany, earlier in the year will participate in the 2nd leg which promises to be equally intense, engaging and exciting.
Film projects which made it to the final stage scheduled for Abuja cut across the African and the Europeans continents. The projects, the statement added were considered to have the capacity to appeal to audiences and film enthusiasts in the different markets of Europe and Africa. Those, with adaptations of novels either in African or Europe, the statement further added, have met the grant of authority of original writers, publishers and proof of underlying rights requirements.
A breakdown of the 14 projects shows that Nigeria has two projects, namely “Bloodline Africa“ by Julius Morno and Ishaku Dashon; “In silence and In Tears “ by Didi Cheeka and Ikechukwu Omenaihe.
Others include, “Love and Secrets” by Axel Messina Mbona & Ndongo Hyachnthe Lypart from Cameroun; “The Ruete Case” by Mira Tanna – Handel and Saidi El-Gheithy from Germany; “Lull the Baby” by Apipie Matere and Clifton Anthony Gachagna from Kenya.
Ekwa Msangi-Omari is participating from the United States America, with the project “Sweet Justice”. “Safiya” by Dominik Vanheusen and Theophane Patinvoh are participating from Belgium and Senegal respectively.
