Abia seeks Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit

Umuahia-Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji has called on the Anti-bomb Squad Unit of the Nigeria Police Force to train personnel for the establishment of Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit in the state.

Governor Orji who made the call when the Commissioner of Police in charge of Anti-bomb Squad, at the Police Headquarters, Abuja, Mr. Ambrose Aisabor, paid him a courtesy visit, said the call became necessary in view of the security situations across the country.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Emeka Ananaba, Orji said that in its resolve to protect the lives and property of its citizens, Abia State Government would take up the responsibility of funding the establishment of the branch of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit in the state.

The governor, who described the visit as very important, commended the unit for their foresight in devising strategies of getting states in the country prepared for the eventuality of any bomb related cases that might occur.

Earlier in his remarks, Aisabor explained that they were in the state on the directive of the Inspector General of Police to evaluate the current security challenges across the country and proffer advise accordingly.

According to him, Government at all levels and the International community are not happy with this new wave of security challenge.

Aisabor appealed to everybody to devise proactive measures to help the police in addressing the problem of bombing and other criminal activities. He commended Abia State Government for its security-friendly posture which it had been demonstrating through the provision of vehicles, accommodation and other logistics.
