By now everyone should be on the same page whenever Cecil Hammond of Flytime Promotions is referred to as the god of events promotion in the country.
Undoubtedly, his company remains about the only event promotions outfit that has successfully put together shows that continue to echo long after it is eventually over.
Memories of the last Saturday album launch of the Okoye twins tagged P-Square – the invasion held inside the Expo hall at the prestigious Eko hotel and suites, Lagos will forever linger in the heart of all those who witnessed the A plus performance of the twin brothers.
As the count down began, Lagos had literally held its breath until the show proper came and it was much more than everyone had expected. You didn’t need a crystal ball to see that meticulous planning and organisation to understand why the show races to the top of any score card. The red carpet had glittered with the paparazzi and celebrities.
And the stage was a balance of technology and technique with flashing lights, pyrotechnics and lasers. The ‘rude boys’ who had in the audience their mother, their lovers and two first ladies from Lagos and Cross Rivers were on point
With the opening set of performances by Psquare’s friends mixed with comedy by Sean P and Buchi, the appetite of the audience was wetted. Sound Sultan wowed the audience. While the fun seekers were waiting for P-Square, they had a long line up of upcoming artistes who entertained them. At close to eleven 0 clock, the P-Square’s invasion was announced.
Like terrestrial forces, they arrived, draped in glittery military jackets and raised the temperature in the bowel of the hall. They got the crowd crazy and made the girls scream to the heavens.
The duo launched into set of favourite songs from their past, added a twist or two with extra keys and worked on the crowd’s energy. Peter added drama when he promised to sing a love song for a lady.
He strummed his guitar and hummed Forever which he took from mellow to a fever pitch note that got the venue louder than ever. They did Possible without Tuface and a wide variety of their discography from their debut which they intermittently spiced with songs from The Invasion album.
The duo also demonstrated how the chemistry between them works as composers, dancers and drummers. Surrounded by his father’s friends” Peter’s son, Cameron did a solo performance that drew cheers from the crowd.
The show raced into the night and into the early hours of the morning but it was impossible to sleep as all eyes were determined to savour every moment of the show.
