Nigeria’s Chinedu Obasi is delighted to be back in the Super Eagles squad after more than a year out with injury.
He is in a 25-man squad for Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Madagascar on 4 September and their friendly with Argentina two days later.
The striker has had a promising start to the Bundesliga season playing in all of Hoffenheim’s league matches in the German Bundesliga so far.
“It feels good to be considered again – it’s quite emotional for me,” he said.
Obasi appeared in Nigeria’s three group matches at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he suffered a stress fracture playing on his shin.
He made a brief return in November 2010 only to suffer yet another injury setback that required surgery.
“I have been through a lot but I’ve been back playing for my club and now the opportunity to play for my country again is amazing,” Obasi told BBC Sport.
“When you’ve been out for a long time you begin to appreciate little things and value your time on the pitch.
“It’s always an honour representing Nigeria and I look forward to these games in the colours of my country.”
Obasi is the only Nigerian to have appeared in all Fifa World Cups [Under 17, Under 20 and Senior] as well as the Olympics games.
