Youthful Chidi Chijioke joined Nollywood in 1997, as an actor, but later veered into film production in order to help empower more youths like him.
With several hit movies to his credit as a young producer, the eastern-based filmmaker who operates mostly from Asaba, the capital city of Delta State, hinted that his dream is to conquer Nollywood and export his talent outside the shores of the country.
I started in 1997, but went professional in 2000. I came into the industry by accident while schooling at the Enugu State University. A friend invited me to Asaba for an event. I was lodged in a hotel. It happened that some cast and crew members were also lodged there too.
The next day when I was leaving for Enugu, I discovered that the sponsor of the movie called off the shoot because of lack of cash. All the cast and crew members were stranded.
I had to transport all of them to their destinations. (Over 50 people). That good act later opened doors for me in Nollywood,”explained the man who says he’s destined to hit the top in Nollywood.
Chijioke, from Anambra State disclosed that his big break finally came when Ik Odife, who at that time was an actor, later got an opportunity to produce a movie.
He called me as his production assistant. I took it up from there. I’ve done over 100 movies as a producer. I chose to stay in the east because I saw it as my choice of base. I believe that where I am isn’t a barrier to whatever I want to achieve in life.
