Mbaise plans cultural centre

OWERRI— Arrangements are in top gear to build a multi-billion Naira Cultural Centre aimed at showcasing the intellectual components of Mbaise people.

The Deputy Chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Chidume Okoro, who disclosed this at a press conference, also said the project would be one of the highlights of this year’s Iri Ji Mbaise cultural festival.

“We will use this year’s festival to initiate the building of a multi-billion Naira cultural centre. Provision would be made for a monumental museum and a colloquium that will showcase the intellectual components of Mbaise people,” Eze Okoro said.

Noting that the festival was an inheritance from the fore-fathers, the royal father, who doubles as the Chairman of Mbaise Council of Traditional Rulers, also disclosed that the festival had been sanitized.

“Iri Ji Mbaise has been sanitized and purged of all forms of obnoxious fetish practices in line with the global wind of evangelism.

“This festival has greatly assisted in promoting the unity of the entire Mbaise nation,” the royal father reasoned.
