Collapsed building kills two brothers in Ilesa

OSOGBO— MORE victims of Sunday’s heavy downpour that wreaked havoc in parts of the country, have been uncovered in Okesa area of Ilesa, Osun State, as corpses of two brothers have been recovered from a building that collapsed during the rain.

However, their sister narrowly escaped with serious injuries.

The names of the deceased were given as Festus Adeoye and Gideon Adeoye, while their sister’s name is Fortune Adeoye.
They were said to be returning from Church along with their parents, when the building collapsed on them.

Their parents; Mr. and Mrs. Adeoye who were behind the three children, escaped unhurt.

An eye witness said the incident occurred about 3.00 p.m on Igbaye Street of Okesa area, Ilesa in the Ilesa East Local Government Area of Osun State.

Narrating the circumstances of the loss, Adeoye, said all efforts to rescue the two sons proved abortive.

He lamented that the boys died before help could come, leaving their little sister critically injured.
Mr. Adeoye said “Fortune is recuperating at the Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital Annex at Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa while the corpses of her brothers have been buried.”

Vanguard gathered that, one of the children was preparing for his Junior Secondary School Certificate examination that will begin next week while the other was in JSS 1.

Efforts to speak with the owner of the collapsed building proved abortive as he was said to have left the town.

Caretaker Chairman of the Local Government Council, Mr. Idowu Falade, who paid a condolence visit to the bereaved family and the scene of the incident, expressed sadness over the tragedy.

Meanwhile, a storey building also collapsed at Imogun-Omofe area, Ilesa on the same day, leaving the occupants homeless and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
