Some drinking joints, sit-outs and eateries in Port Harcourt , Rivers State have decided to reduce the prices of their drinks and food for journalists and athletes that would be in attendance at the 17th Sports Festival, known as the Garden City Games.
Sports Vanguard also gathered that some female students from universities of neighbouring states and those of the host city have perfected plans to grace the games in style.
Disclosing the cut in prices of booze and food in Port Harcourt , Chairman of the Publicity Sub-Committee Mrs Ibim Semenitari said she was thrilled by the decision of a popular sit-out in GRA axis to cut down its prices on those items for the games sake.
Semenitari praised the Port Harcourt Council boss for facilitating the price cut for journalists and athletes for the period of the game. “The spirit of the game is to show that Rivers State is very accommodating, peaceful and safe”.
Also and in the spirit of the games, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has sacked all the refuse contractors in the state for not working up to expectation. The governor said the dirtiness in the city does not portray the huge amount spent to cleanup the land.
Accordingly, the governor has directed the Chairman of the state environmental sanitation authority to fill the gap with new hands before the games begin so as to enhance the Garden City status of Port Harcourt
