Ghana cedi flat versus dollar

Ghana’s currency traded even against the dollar for the third day in a row, as recent central bank support balanced foreign exchange demand, traders said.

Jacob Brobbey from Barclays Ghana quoted the dollar-cedi rate unchanged on the interbank at 1.5145/70 at 1414 GMT. “Today has been very quiet and I expect it to remain calm, below 1.52 to close the week,” he said.

The local currency has traded flat since the central bank propped up the market last Friday by selling dollars, offsetting pressure on the local currency on meagre foreign inflows drawn in by an undersubscribed 3-year bond. “There’s an easing of corporate demand and marginal foreign inflows. It is all quiet. I expect it to remain stable into the next week,” said Christopher Nettey from Stanbic Bank.
