Sanitation exercise: Lagos suspends restriction of movement

The Lagos State Government has suspended restriction of movement during tomorrow’s end of the month environmental sanitation.
The suspension order was in view of the political climate in the country to which Lagos State is no exception.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of the Environment, Dr. Titi Anibaba, who conveyed the approval of Governor Babatunde Fashola, SAN, said after the general elections in the country and emergence of winners, the suspension was to facilitate hitch-free preparation for the inauguration of Governor Fashola and Mrs Adejoke Orelope Adefulire as the Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State respectively.

Dr. Anibaba implored all citizens to ensure that the cleaning exercise is observed at their various houses, irrespective of the non-restriction of movement during the period of the exercise.

She appealed that special attention should be paid to the de-silting of drains to allow for free flow of storm water as metrologists have predicted that the heavy downpour being witnessed will persist for some time more.

Anibaba, further noted that it was imperative that all drainage channels be kept free of silts and refuse to avoid flooding of homes that could lead to the destruction of lives and properties.

She mentioned that, LAWMA and PSP operators have been mandated to go round and collect refuse generated during period of the exercise while Environmental Health Officers and men of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) have been directed to visit tenements to ensure compliance with Public health regulations and bring offenders to book.
