A professor of Public Health Entomology, Hayward Babale Mafuyai, has been appointed the new vice-chancellor of the University of Jos. He succeeds Prof. Sonni Tyoden whose tenure expires on June 12.

A statement by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Danjuma Jilli-Dandam, said the Governing Council took the decision at its Eighth Regular Meeting on Wednesday May 4 during which it considered the report of the Council/Senate Selection Board for the appointment of a new vice-chancellor.

According to the statement, “The Council in accordance with the powers conferred on it by the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provision) Amendment Act 2003, considered the three candidates recommended to it by the Selection Board and appointed Professor Hayward Babale Mafuyai as Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos.”

Mafuyai, who was until his appointment, Director, Office for Research and Development of the university has also served as Deputy Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Acting Head, Department of Remedial Sciences and Director, Students’ Industrial Work Experience (SIWES) at different times.
