The splendour of British royalty was on display, Friday, when Prince William and Kate Middleton were pronounced man and wife at Westminster Abbey.

The service was  conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Rowan Williams before 1900 guests and a global audience of two billion people.

William was wearing his Colonel of the Irish Guards dress uniform, while Prince Harry, his bestman, was in his Captain of the Household Cavalry uniform.

William placed a slimline gold ring on Kate’s finger. He will not wear a ring.

Kate will now be called the Duchess of Cambridge while her husband is the Duke of  Cambridge.

Buckingham Palace announced these titles yesterday night.

William’s other titles are , Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus.

After the wedding, the couple rode in a procession in an open-topped 1902 State Landau carriage.

The same carriage used by William’s parents, Prince Charles and lady Diana for their wedding in 1981.

Reports say, the couple are at the Buckingham Palace where the Queen is hosting  a 650-guest  buffet reception.
