Fire guts Jama’atul Nasril Islam building

Kaduna – Fire has gutted parts of the national headquarters of Jama’atul Nasril Islam, JNI, an Islamic organisation, in Kaduna.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the ultra-modern conference hall of the complex was reduced to ashes by the inferno late on Thursday.

The JNI Secretary-General, Dr Khalid Abubakar, told NAN that the unfortunate incident happened around 7 p.m.

e said the cause of the fire and extent of damage had not been ascertained, but no life was lost.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Haruna John, led security agents to disperse angry youths from the scene.

The youth, who suspected sabotage, had started to molest motorists and passers-by.

They blocked the major highway between the Nigerian Defence Academy and Kawo, causing a heavy traffic that slowed down movement of commuters.

JNI staff, fire fighters and some good Samaritans battled to put out the fire, which lasted for more than one hour yesterday.
