New Igwe emerges in Enugwu Ukwu

The EnugwuUkwu community in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State has elected a new traditional ruler. He is HRH Igwe Ralph O. Ekpeh, a Director of Fag Africana Publishers, Onitsha and an industrialist based in the community. He was crowned and given staff of office by the Regent of the town, Oba Donald Nwandu at an impressive ceremony held at the EnugwuUkwu Civic Centre.

Igwe Ralph Ekpeh defeated three other candidates at an election held the previous day by delegates selected from Akaezi Quarters of EnugwuUkwu which should produce the new Igwe as provided in the new Constitution of the community.

Igwe Ekpeh succeeds His Majesty, Igwe Osita Agwuna III, Eze EnugwuUkwuna Igwe Umunri, one of the forefront fighters for Nigeria’s Independence who ruled the town for 48 years, and joined his ancestors three and half years ago. Igwe Ekpeh is now the Chairman of EnugwuUkwu Cabinet and Traditional Council, Chairman Nze na Ozo EnugwuUkwu as well as Grand Patron, EnugwuUkwu Community Development Union (ECDU).
