IBADAN – ACADEMIC and administrative activities were grounded yesterday at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, as a result of the protest by students over perceived outrageous increase of their school fees by the management of the institution.
The school fees of N60,000, according to a source, was jerked up to N100,000 which the students found to be too high.
The demonstrated reportedly forced the school authorities to give the demonstrating students a compulsory one week break to douse tension.
Also, the institution announced indefinite suspension on the President of the Student Union, Mr. Adeniji Idowu, for his alleged role in the protest which put academic activities on hold.
Another grouse of the students was the unresolved ownership tussle between the Oyo and Osun State governments.
In a statement by the Acting Registrar of the institution, Mr. Niyi Fehintola, the management said, “the authorities of the LAUTECH have declared a one week mid-semester break with immediate effect”.
