Group alleges plot to compromise INEC staff, Police

Abakaliki -Ahead of Saturday’s elections, the Greater Ebonyi Movement, GEM, has alerted the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the public to the purported plan by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to compromise electoral officials and the Police during the polls in Ebonyi State.

The group also alleged that there was a plot to unleash violence on areas where the opposition was popular  in the state, particularly in the southern axis.

Maintaining that the recent attack on the hometown of National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Dr. Ogbonaya Onu, was a sign of things to come, the group claimed that the PDP had been boasting that it could “handle the police and INEC before, during and after the elections.”

It would be recalled that on March 19, armed men, suspected to be political thugs, overran Onu’s hometown, Uburu, in Ohaozara Local Government Area. During the raid, many houses belonging to ANPP chieftains were destroyed, even as the gunmen held the community hostage for several hours,  shooting sporadically into the air.
