To lose one pound per week, you need to burn 3,500 calories. (You see why people put on weight easily)! They consume 3,500 calories at lunch only in a day, so they end up with flabby thighs, big butts and a protruded stomach. No short cut, you are what you eat and digest!

GOOD FOOD: Living food or raw foods. These foods have not been cooked, boiled, stewed, micro-waved, frozen baked or steamed. As a result, they are still in their original state and contain their food enzymes. Food enzymes are the life force of food and help the digestion process. Raw fruits, raw vegetables, seeds, all contain food enzymes to nourish our bodies, provide us with energy and balance our metabolism. Most people’s meals completely miss food enzymes. They never ate anything raw.

GOOD CARBOHYDRATES: These are carbohydrates without added refined sugar. For instance, fruits, whole meal bread, brown rice, white rice and vegetables. These healthy carbohydrates (called complex carbohydrates) contain naturally occurring sugars that the body can easily and slowly metabolize for balanced brain function, mood attitude and useful energy. They are not stripped or bleached of their nutrients.

BAD FOODS: Over-cooked vegetables: when I ask my clients if they eat vegetables, they say yes. And how was it prepared? Over cooked and soaked in oil and some even eat vegetables that have been in the freezer for the past one week that is DEAD FOOD NO ENZYMES!

People boil their vegetables to death and in the process lose all of their vital nutrients.

To get the most out of your veggies, either eat them raw or simply steam them lightly for 2-3 minutes.

BAD CARBOHYDRATES: Simple carbohydrates are the sugary, refined types of carbohydrate which are not good for you. These include chocolates, cakes, biscuits, sweets, sodas (soft drinks) and anything made with added, refined sugar or flour or processed white.

During the refining process, majority of the minerals and vitamins are removed, and these foods behave like pure sugar when they enter the body. They rush into the blood stream, causing blood glucose disturbances and cravings. Eat too many of these food and you will undoubtedly have mood swings. You may get depressed, angry, and irritable. IF YOU WANT TO BE FAT, SICK AND AGE PREMATURELY, EAT BAD CARBOHYDRATES.

Excess bad carbohydrate residues are stored as fat in the body. And finally, years of bad carbohydrate eating could lead to diabetes.

Thanks for reading Vanguard’s Sunday pull-out, Allure. If you follow the mathematics of weight loss, you will find that though you eat once a day, if the calorie content of that meal is more than your activity, you will not lose weight but put on weight.

I had a client that says she eats once a day and that’s only lunch which is usually white rice, fried plantain and assorted meat washed down with soft drink! That is what she calls food. But before lunch, she has had some biscuits, canned fruit juice, some pastries from traffic restaurants etc. She doesn’t see these as food but these contain the worse calories. I hope you don’t belong to that category.

Spread out your food and try eating six or five small meals a day, with lots of water and of course exercising.
