THE Edo State Police Command, has declared the embattled Youth Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the state, Mr Osakpanwa Eriyo, wanted, over the killing of two young men on Lagos Street, Tuesday.
According to the Assistant Public Relations Officer of the state Command, Mr Ejiroro Ahwara, “we are declaring him wanted over his alleged involvement in the case of murder, which led to the death of two young men on Tuesday.”
But Osakpanwa, in a petition to the AIG, Zone 5, Benin, absolved himself of the allegation, saying that he was not around the scene of the incident, but at the state Government House, where he was summoned by the state government for a meeting over state matters.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I was not anywhere close to the alleged place of shooting. On March 15, 2011, when the shooting allegedly took place. I was at the Edo State Government House as early as 8am on the invitation of government. I was in Government House till about 3:30pm. On getting to my office at No 168 Ekenwa Road, I was informed by union officers that some of our union personnel had been critically shot by one Mr Tony Adun.
“I wish to emphatically state, that the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, is a nationally recognised union, which exists by virtue of an enabling Act with the statutory mandate to manage and administer motor parks across the country. On the day of the unfortunate incident, the authentic report reaching me was that the union personnel were doing their normal duties at the motor park within Lagos Street axis and not in the market place,” he added.
