OWERRI—The member representing Aboh Mbaise constituency of Imo State, Chief Mike Iheanetu, has said there was no truth in reports that the State House of Assembly was planning to impeach Governor Ikedi Ohakim and speaker, Chief Goodluck Opiah.
Chief Iheanetu, who debunked the rumour at a press conference in Owerri, also insisted that “there is no impeachable offence(s) against Governor Ohakim or the speaker before the House”.
Addressing issues relating to the N24 billion allegedly misapplied by Governor Ohakim, the lawmaker challenged his colleague for Ehime Mbano constituency to show concrete proof of the governor’s alleged wrong doing or risk the wrath of the House.
He said: “Ifeany Agwu was Chairman of Budget and Appropriation Committee for nearly four years. He did not see anything wrong with the system until he decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party.”
Noting that Agwu had 11 options opened to him to properly bring up the matter in the House but only chose to speak on motion for adjournment, Iheanatu was also irked by a recent news credited to Onuorah Olumba that the governor borrowed N92 billion.
“The House is anxiously waiting for them to prove their allegations. If they fail to prove their allegations against the governor, the House will react appropriately,” Iheanetu said.
The legislator said he did not understand why some of his colleagues should blame the governor and speaker for their recent failure at the PDP party primaries at Aboh Mbaise.
