ASABA—Reactions have continued to trail last week’s explosion at Government Guest House, Asaba, Delta State, with the member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju, describing the perpetrators as “irresponsible and criminal.”
Meanwhile, former Secretary to Delta State Government, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged the people to be calm and vigilant in view of the explosion, just as former Force Public Relations Officer, now Commissioner in charge of Bomb Disposal Unit, Mr. Chris Olakpe, weekend, visited the scene of the explosions and took away particles for proper forensic examination in order to determine the nature of the blast.
Speaking to our correspondent in a telephone chat, Mr. Reyenieju said, “These individuals, who have taken the planting and detonation of bombs as their stock in trade should know that the long arm of the law will one day catch up with them.”
The lawmaker wondered why some individuals have become so heartless to the extent of planting bombs with the sole aim of destroying property, especially the lives of innocent persons.
Similarly, Okowa, a senatorial aspirant for Delta North Senatorial District on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, told Vanguard, on phone, Sunday, that all Deltans must give peace a chance as that was the only way through which development can be attained.
“I appeal to the citizens, particularly, those in Asaba, to be calm as the law enforcement agencies are on top of the matter. However, extra vigilance is expected on the part of all at this time and it is expected that all would cooperate with the police in doing their work. I also appeal to all Deltans to toe the path of peace as that is the only sure way to development.
“Let me also use this opportunity to express my heart felt sympathy to the families of the victims of the rather unfortunate incident in which six innocent little school children lost their lives. It is really tragic and my prayer for those families is that the Almighty God will grant them grace and fortitude to bear the loss. I also pray that it will not happen again because it is a very sad experience,” he added.
