ABUJA—Following the lull that characterized works on the dualisation of the Abuja-Lokoja highway, the Federal Government has set up a committee to unravel the circumstances surrounding the failing road contracts.
It will be recalled that erstwhile President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, had awarded the 196 kilometer road contract, divided into four sections, to four different contractors in November 2006 under the Presidential Initiative Project, PIP, which was then funded directly from the excess crude oil account.
The contracts, according to the agreements, were expected to have been completed and delivered to the Federal Government by April 2009, but the project is yet to attain 40% completion, five years after it was awarded
