Former Nigerian international hurdler, Henry Amike yesterday emerged as President of the Nigeria Olympians Association after a unanimous vote in an election of the body held yesterday at the media centre of the national stadium Surulere, Lagos.
Former Green Eagles mid-fielder, Henry Nwosu was voted in as the first Vice President while Falilat Ogunkoya defeated Henry Akinwande 16 to 8 votes to emerge the 2nd vice President.
Sunday Bada was voted in unopposed as secretary just as Helen Idahosa Asemota who won the post of the financial secretary un-opposed.
Mary Onyali defeated Jerry Okorodudu to the post of the Public Relations Officer while Ann Chiejine defeated Chioma Ajunwa and Mary Nwachukwu-Chima to the post of treasurer.
The most dramatic was the election for the post of Assistant secretary which pitched Bose Kafo and Bridget Yamalla. They tied twice after a rerun and in the third vote, Yamalla carried the day through ballot.
Twenty four Olympians voted in the election which had Nigeria Olympic Committee scribe, Tunde Popoola as chairman of the electoral committee. Other members of the committee included Toyin Aluko and Columba Opara.
The new President, Henry Amike said he was ready to take the association to new heights and sought the cooperation of all stake holders in the challenges ahead.
