Lagos—police in Lagos said they killed two suspected armed robbers Tuesday morning as a gang of bandits attempted to steal rams at a livestock market in the Ifako area of Lagos.
Mr. Samuel Jinadu, the Lagos Deputy Police spokesman disclosed this yesterday.
Jinadu said that the suspected armed robbery gang came to the area in an unmarked Mazda car at about 2 a.m. and began to shoot sporadically.
He said: “It was the shooting that attracted a police patrol team, which then went to the area and engaged the hoodlums in a shootout. When the exchange of fire was over, two of the suspected robbers had been killed while the others escaped.
“The operational car and five rams were recovered from the scene. Police got the report that the suspected robbers had been coming to the ram market to steal livestock before the two were killed.”
Meanwhile, two other suspected armed robbers were arrested, Tuesday, at Salvation Road, Ikeja at about 7.30 p.m., when their gang raided the home of one Francis Eyemba.
Jinadu said that the suspects succeeded in stealing four mobile phones, two laptop computers and some jewelries before the police arrested them.
He said that the cases were still under investigations.
