BENIN – DARE – deviled armed robbers, today,  in Ekpoma, the administrative headquarters of Esan West Local Government Local Area of Edo State attacked a first generation bank in the town and left on its trail four dead persons.

Among those killed during the bank robbery were three police men on guard duty at the bank and a ‘vulcanizer’ who was said to have been hit by a stray bullet.

Vanguard learnt from eye witness account that the  robbers, seven in number, came in two vehicles and raided the bank situated along the Royal Market Road at about 9.30am.

The robbers were said to have shot sporadically and in the process, some staff of the bank including the Bank Manger as well as other  customers  sustained injuries and were taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Vanguard also learnt that there was a shoot-out between the robbers and the police  as the Police beat retreat.

According to eye witness account, the armed robbers fled with undisclosed amount of money from the bank before police re-enforcement returned.

When contacted, Edo State Police Command spokesman, Mr. Peter Ogboi confirmed the incident. He however said that the police was investigating the robbery incident.
