ACCA to honor members

The Nigeria office of the Association of Chartered Certified Accounts (ACCA) will later this month hold its ‘Celebration of Membership’ evening; an event dedicated to honoring the Association’s Members, as well as celebrating trainees who emerged tops in the 2009 June Diet exams.

Scheduled to hold in the month of October the Celebration of Membership event is in line with ACCA’s tradition of rewarding excellence and outstanding performance in the Accountancy profession.

Speaking on the proposed event, Mrs. Toyin Ademola, ACCA Nigeria’s Country Manager said: “This event would make it possible for our newly admitted members to meet and network with older Members. This would enable a mentoring opportunity in certain areas of the accountancy profession and even other spheres of life.

“Earlier in the year, the ACCA Nigeria organized a seminar to introduce our members to the benefits of adopting International Financial Reporting Standard. We have also conducted capacity development workshops and training programmes which have greatly enhanced our Members’ performances in their various work places and businesses.

I also expect that the somewhat informal discussions among Members at the Celebration of Membership event may contribute greatly to the development of accountancy practice in Nigeria in the not too distant future” she added.

To become a chartered accountant, individuals register as student members to undertake the Professional Scheme qualification and upon successful completion of the examinations, student members are automatically transferred to Affiliate status.

Affiliates would attain ACCA Membership status after completion of their three year practical experience requirement and professional ethics module. Currently, ACCA strives to ensure that students have the best possible resources to enable them to progress through ACCA’s internationally recognized exams.

According to results for June Diet, 6,213 students successfully completed their final ACCA exams. With this feat, they move closer towards attaining ACCA Membership. More than 196,000 students sat for ACCA exams in June, taking over 384,000 papers.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is a professional accountancy body which aims to offer business-relevant, first-choice qualifications to people of application, ability and ambition around the world who seek a rewarding career in accountancy, finance and management.
