Jos—Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Sonni Tyoden, has said the institution has not increased the fees payable by students as it was being speculated in some quarters.

While briefing journalists yestrday, he said the difference to be paid is the N10,000 development levy per student agreed to by stakeholders of the university which included parents, guardians and students.

He said the university convened the stakeholders meeting to discuss the way forward in view of the deteriorating state of structures in the institution and the inability to move to its permanent site 35 years after its establishment as a second generation university.

Tyoden said after going round the facilities, the stakeholders decided to come to the aid of the university with the development levy which would be paid in two installments by students.

He said apart from the development levy the fee payable per student without accommodation remained seven thousand naira which he said had not been increased in the past 15 years and that it is the lowest paid by students within the country’s university system.

He repeated his appeal to the Federal Government to give the university a take-off grant as was done for other second generation universities.
