About 70 Nigerian students who are currently studying for various degree programme at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom have been commended fro their brilliant academic performances.
This commendation came from Ms Jo Nesbitt, the Deputy Director of the International Office of the university while recently briefing the press in Lagos of the abundant opportunities that await international students who choose to study in the university.
She disclosed that the University of Southampton, which is one of the top 20 universities in UK, has produced many Nigerian graduates in Civil Engineering, Environmental and Maritime Law and other courses.
According to her, the university has a total student population of 20,000 out of which 5,000 are international students, adding that the university is ranked 10th in the world in tele-communication and satellite communication.
Although the tuition for international students is around Â£30,000 per annum, there is an opportunity for scholarship and bursary awards for them which is highly competitive as it is based on academic performance.
According to Nesbitt, the university is linked with Worldwide Network as well as with the British government, adding that the university does research in various areas, including specialised ones such as in climate change.
She said that since the university is appreciative of the rigours international students go through in procuring visa, two staff, who are highly dedicated and the British Council assist students in processing their visa, adding that the processing of visa has now been made more transparent for students.
