By Ola Ajayi
THE Oyo State Police Command, has arrested nine suspects in connection with Sunday’s fracas that erupted between two Islamic sects in Ibadan. The mayhem left 13 people injured when disagreement arose over mode of worship.

Also, the Oyo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Baba Adisa Bolanta , said the command was on the trail of the Islamic cleric who allegedly preached a sermon that triggered the crisis.

When Vanguard visited the scene of the melee yesterday, normalcy had returned and the people living within the Sabo area of the city who are predominantly Hausas were going about their business.

The Armoured Personnel Carrier that was stationed at the area had been moved away while the blockage had been removed.

Vanguard learnt from a source who is resident in the area that the CP had initially waded into the crisis and also a magistrate court in Iyaganku had banned the sects from using loudspeakers to prevent any incitement.

But one of the sects allegedly violated the order and the other sect turned violent using dangerous weapons.

13 members believed to be members of Izala sect were seriously injured as machete cuts were inflicted on them. Three mosques and some vehicles were vandalized when the fracas lasted.
