PDP has final say on zoning – Goje

By Peter Duru

MAKURDI — As Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to grapple with the issue of zoning, especially as it affects the position of the next presidential candidate of the party, Governor Danjuma Goje of Gombe State has declared that PDP has the final say on which geopolitical zone would produce the next presidential candidate of the party.

Governor Goje said this in Makurdi when he stopped over on his way  from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, where he bagged an honorary award.

The Governor’s comment is coming on the heels of the recent majority decision of the Northern Governor’s Forum to abide by the zoning arrangement of the party which implied that the region should produce the next presidential candidate of the party.

He said that no matter the decision that was reached at the Forum, the PDP has the final say on the matter.

According to him, “as a party man, we will abide by whatever PDP as a party decides on the issue. We are relying on the party to give us direction and we will surely abide by it.

“PDP is my party and I will continue to be a member of the party, therefore its decision on any matter would be binding on me.”

Goje denied rumours of his presidential ambition. He said he neither had nor considered the idea.
