Mr Adegboyega Adepegba, the Director-General, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), on Wednesday said that the institute had produced about 2,000 associates members in the last 18 years.
Adepegba said in Lagos that the figures were for those who obtained the institute’s associate certificate before the introduction of its new syllabus in 2008.
The director-general said that the institute had produced many certificate and diploma members since the introduction of the new syllabus. The CIIN started issuing the Associate of Insurance Institute of Nigeria (AIIN) certificate in 1992.
“Before the new syllabus became operational in 2008, we had about 2,000 associate members. These include those who have completed the AIIN before the introduction of the new syllabus in 2008. Now, we have various levels of graduation including certificates, diplomas and associates. Quite a reasonable number has obtained the institute’’s certificates and diplomas,†he said.
According to him, with the institute’s certificate or diploma, it is assumed that one has achieved something, but the ultimate is to have the AIIN. Adepegba said that the Federal Government had, through the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), assisted the institute with the provision of annual subvention.
He said that the institute was looking forward to more assistance from the government and other organisations in the area of computerisation of its examinations.
The director-general said that the institute had planned to conduct its examination across the West African sub-region, saying that it was left with no option than going e-learning. He said the assistance being expected was in the area of computerisation to enable it to carry out its e-learning programme.
