PHCN throws community into darkness over debt

By  Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI — Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, has disconnected Amaifeke, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, the country home of the former governor, Chief Achike Udenwa, from the national grid for owing what the company says is “huge sums of money.”

The youths, who were reportedly accompanied by their traditional ruler, Eze Emmanuel Okeke, complained bitterly about the pitch darkness the community had been thrown into since PHCN disconnected the area.

Answering questions from newsmen after youths of Amaifeke stormed Orlu Business Unit of PHCN, the Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Charles Okolie, confirmed that the community was disconnected for owing large sums of money.
Okolie condemned what he termed “the unruly behavior of Amaifeke youths,” stressing that “the youths beat up the company’s security personnel on duty.”

Answering another question, the Public Affairs Officer also said that he was manhandled by the rampaging youths, led by a prominent personality from the community (names withheld).
