Anambra PDP withdraws court cases

By Vincent Ujumadu

AWKA— ALL court cases instituted by the embattled Barrister Bright Nnebedum-led executive of Anambra State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may soon be withdrawn, following the intervention of the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo.

Nnebedum and members of his executive on Monday held discussions on the issue at the invitation of the national leadership of the party which, it was gathered, expressed worry at the lingering crisis in the party in Anambra State.  The crisis was blamed for the party’s loss in the 6 February 2010 governorship election.

State Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Chikodi Anara, said in a statement that the leadership of PDP was desirous of ensuring that peace returned to the party in Anambra State to enable it prepare adequately for next year’s general elections.

“The meeting at the national secretariat of the party was to deliberate on issues concerning the court cases pending against the National Working Committee (NWC) and party for dissolving the body soon after the 2008 congresses and national convention.

“The core purpose  of the meeting was to persuade the Anambra State Exco to withdraw  all the suits instituted against the party to enable it organize a fresh congress in the state in keeping with the decisions reached at Anambra State stakeholders meeting held 12 July,2010 in Abuja,” Anara said.
