Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has appealed to the state House of Assembly to reconsider 2010 budget with a view to making necessary amendment.
The appeal was contained in a letter sent to Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji entitled: ‘Re: Y2010 Appropriation Law’ dated March 22, 2010 which was read on the floor of the House during plenary.
The House had in February while passing the 2010 budget of the state presented to it by the governor reduced the appropriation estimate by about N40 billion.
According to the governor, the amendment “is to enable the state discharge its obligations to employee, contractors and other service providers. And in particular, to pursue strategic initiatives to stimulate jobs and provide security of food, particularly staple and vegetable in the short to medium term.â€
The letter also contains recommended amendment of the law, for the consideration of the House.
Fashola promised that an executive bill incorporating the amendment would be table before the House once it indicated agreement to the principle behind proposed amendment.
