Commissoner denies dumping Elechi for Egwu

By Tony Edike

ENUGU—EBONYI State Commissioner for Inter Party Dialogue, Chief James Nweke, has described as mischievous, a recent media report which alleged that he had dumped Governor Martin Elechi and pitched tent with the camp of former Minister of Education, Dr. Sam Egwu.

The report alleged that the Commissioner’s decision to switch camp was sequel to Governor Elechi’s decision to drop the Ivo Local Government Area Chairman, Mr Celestine Eze in the state’s July council elections.

But Chief Nweke, who spoke with newsmen in Enugu at the weekend, denied the allegations, alleging that the report was sponsored by political detractors,  who he claimed were involved in secret plans within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to wrest power from the Governor in 2011.

He said, “if not for mischief, how else can one explain such an allegation that a serving Commissioner has dumped the Governor’s camp for another without first resigning from the government.”

The Commissioner claimed that the same people sponsoring such publications were the same group creating non existent camps and opposition groups in the state in a bid to distract the government, “but we are happy that we have a Governor, who knows the game more than all of them.”

“In as much as I do not want to join issues with them, what they have done is like putting the cat before the horse because the party in the state has not conducted its primaries to nominate candidates for the council polls,” he said.
