LAGOS â€” AHEAD of 2011 general election, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ogbonna Onovo, has deployed all the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, DIGs, to all the various geo-political zones across the country.
Sources from the Force Headquarters Abuja, say the deployment was aimed at acquainting the senior police officers with the problems and peculiarities of the respective states as well as how to team up with the governments and people of the states on crime prevention and control.
Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Emman Ojukwu, in a telephone chat, said the police boss does not want to take chances, adding that the Force was poised to ensure a crime-free elections.
According the force image maker, “the IGP in his usual intelligence-led policing has deployed all the DIGs to the various geo-political zones across the country. The essence is to assess police preparation for the 2011 elections, assess strategies on check-up, personnel misconduct, create new room for police to make complaints, check implementation of the 3-point agenda.”
Continuing, ACP Ojukwu said, “the deployment is equally aimed at addressing officers and men on what is expected of them, how to respond promptly to complaints from personnel, boost morale and motivate them to improve service delivery.
“The very essence of the action is that it is an operational assessment of the zones, a policy thrust of the IGP to reawaken commitment.”

DIG Uba Ringim is to man zones 1 and 10, DIG Dedan Uzoma takes charge of zones 4 and 9, DIG Israel Ajao zones 2 and 11 while DIG John Ahmadu will take charge of zones 7 and 8. DIGs Udom Ekpo-Udom and Olusegun Efuntayo have been deployed to zones 5 and 6, 3 and 12 respectively.”
