2 Policemen abducted in Aba

By Eric Ugbor

ABA—AS activities of kidnappers continue unabated in Abia State, two persons suspected to be policemen were yesterday abducted in front of Grail Message Centre, in the  Ogbor Hill area of Aba.

The incident occurred about 200 metres away from a police checkpoint along Opobo Road, Aba.

An eye witness account said the two men were traveling in a blue Toyota Camry car from Opobo Junction towards Azumiri Town in Ukwa East Local Government Area, when on getting to the Grail Centre area, they were accosted by six gunmen, who were also riding in a milk colour Camry car and two motorcycles.

The source said that as the gunmen stopped their victims and fired warning shots into the air, policemen on duty at the check point, took to their heels and the gang forced the two men, later identified by a passer-by as policemen, into their (kidnappers’) car and sped-off to an unknowns destination.

The man who helped to clear the vehicle of the victims left by the hoodlums off the road, said he was to have traveled with the duo that morning but for an urgent phone call he got.

As at press time,  nothing has been had of the abducted men as their captors had not made any contact with their victims’ family members, yet.

It will be recalled that about three weeks ago, gunmen numbering about six, after battling with security personnel for about 45 minutes, kidnapped a woman in her 70s and she was said to have been released after the husband paid N5m ransom.

Efforts made to speak with the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Aba Area Command proved abortive. When Vanguard visited his office, he was said not to be on sit.
