Activity on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) resumed the week on a bullish note, as the value of listed equities appreciated, Monday, by N2.59 billion.
In particular, the value of listed equities, represented by the market capitalisation and All-share index, appreciated by 0.05 per cent each.
The capitalisation rose to N5.538 trillion from N5.535 trillion at which it opened the dayâ€™s trading, while the index rose by 10.78 basis points to close at 22,995.75 points.
Conoil Plc recorded the most share price gain, rising by N1.70 to close at N35.87 per share, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc followed with a gain of N0.78 to close at N16.56 per share and UAC Nigeria Plc garnered N0.65 to close at N43.94 per share.
Other share price gainers include: Zenith Bank Plc N0.48, Honeywell Flour Mills Plc N0.37, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc N0.31, Access Bank Plc N0.28, National Salt Company Plc N0.28, University Press Plc N0.25, RT. Briscoe (Nigeria) Plc N0.22 among others.
On the contrary, African Petroleum Plc recorded the most share price loss, dropping by N1.76 to close at N45.70 per share, PZ Cussons (Nigeria) Plc followed with a loss of N0.70 to close at N25.30 per share and Diamond Bank Plc dipped by N0.43 to close at N8.92 per share.
Other share price losers include: Cadbury Nigeria Plc N0.37, Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc N0.29, Skye Bank Plc N0.21, Lafarge Cement WAPCO Plc N0.20, Dangote Flour Mills Plc N0.17, Champion Breweries Plc N0.15, DN Meyer Nigeria Plc N0.15 among others.
equity trading, however, depreciated by 26.4 per cent, as a turnover of 300.16 million shares valued at N2.18 billion was recorded in 6,586 deals, in contrast to the last Thursdayâ€™s turnover of 407.83 million shares valued at N3.27 billion in 7,082 deals.
The Banking sub-sector recorded the highest transaction, accounting for 53.8 per cent of the market turnover, with 161.5 million shares valued at N1.58 billion in 3,560 deals. Ecobank Nigeria Plc enjoyed the most patronage in the sub-sector, trading 43.28 million shares valued at N250.7 million in 233 deals, First Bank of Nigeria Plc followed with the exchange of 34.42 million shares valued at N496.31 million in 939 deals and Zenith Bank Plc recorded 22.46 million shares valued at N354.39 million in 300 deals.
The Insurance sub-sector followed on the sectorial analysis, accounting for 16.61 per cent of the market turnover, with 49.86 million shares valued at N40.47 million in 394 deals.
Continental Reinsurance emerged the most active in the sub-sector, trading 14.16 million shares valued at N13.49 million in 18 deals, Standard Alliance Insurance Plc followed with the exchange of 12.6 million shares valued at N6.46 million in 52 deals and AIICO Insurance Plc recorded 7.41 million shares valued at N7.78 million in 77 deals.
