Uba tasks INEC on free, fair polls

Onitsha—Labour Party candidate for the February 6 governorship election in Anambra State, Dr Andy Uba has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct a free and fair poll  to ensure peace and stability in the state.

Uba, who spoke at a campaign rally in Onitsha North Local Government Area, said that only a credible and acceptable result of the election  would put to an end to the protracted political crisis in the state.

He appealed to politicians, their supporters and the electorate to conduct themselves in a manner that would not cause any crisis on or before the election, just as he condemned the violence allegedly caused by his colleagues in the cause of their campaigns, saying that politics should be devoid of rancour and acrimony.

Speaking on behalf of Onitsha North people, the zonal Coordinator of Uba Campaign Organisation, Mr Edwin Okwuosa and a member of the State House of Assembly, Mr Egwuatu assured Uba, that they will vote en masse for him, recalling that Uba had given many of them political appointments.

Responding, Uba promised  empower the youths and return Onitsha to its past glory if given the mandate and appealed to them to vote en masse for him.

At Onitsha Estate Recreation Centre in Onitsha South Local Government Area, Uba promised to provide security,  jobs for the unemployed, water, electricity, good road network to attract investors and ensure the dredging of the River Niger.

Also speaking at Ogbaru yesterday, Uba while donating motorcycles and a tractor,  asked the people to guard their votes and make sure that agents of other political parties did not steal their votes.

He said he left PDP because of the injustice they meted out on him and urged them to cast a protest vote against PDP in the February 6 governorship election.
