NHF: 2009 was good for hockey

Nigeria Hockey Federation has given itself a pass mark in its 2009 activities. Secretary-general of the Federation, Gloria Ekwempu-Chinwuko, submitted that the year witnessed a lot of activities and they are looking forward to a fruitful year in 2010.
Following is a review of the federations activities for the out gone year.

The year began with the African Nations Cup decided in Accra, Ghana, from July 10-18 2009. Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa participated in both male and female categories.

In the female category, Nigeria won bronze, while South Africa and Ghana took the gold and silver respectively. The males were not so fortunate to win a medal as South Africa won the gold, Egypt got silver and Ghana settled for the bronze.

On August 22, 2009, the stakeholders meeting was held in Abuja. The meeting was a forum to interact with hockey family from the states, hockey clubs, School Sports Federation, Armed Forces Etc.

The president took time in explaining the aim of concessioning hockey, the structures and the line up of programme. The attendance was impressive. Some gift items from our partner ( IEI) International Energy Insurance was presented to the participants.

On November 18, 2009, the International Indoor Hockey Course was held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This attracted over thirty seven candidates Both coaches and umpires from different parts of the federation attended the Course which was conducted by an (Fih) International Hockey Federation Instructor.
