ENUGU—THE Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday called for the unconditional release of its leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, just as it vowed not to allow any body use its name to perpetrate   evil.

In a statement in Enugu, by its Director of Information, Uchenna Madu, MASSOB said that the detention of one Pascal Okorie in the group’s custody on account of which Uwazuruike was arrested by the Police was based on the discovery by the organisation  that he (Okorie) was “sponsoring and using the name of the organisation to derail peace in Anambra State.”

“Paschal Okorie, who just arrived from the US came to organise and empower the so called Biafran Army in readiness to disrupt Anambra State governorship election. Since July 2009, Nnamdi Kanu, Paschal Okorie, Chukwuma Egemba and others have been using the name of  MASSOB to call for the disruption of Anambra State election, insisting that there will be no election in Anambra State.

“The group sponsored by some disgruntled and desperate politicians in Igbo land have been using money to mobilize, form, organise and arm the  group called, ‘Biafra Army’ to unleash mayhem during Anambra governorship election on February 6,” the statement said.

The group further explained that it picked up Okorie on learning of his arrival back to the country “ just to frustrate his group’s bad intention of denting the name of MASSOB,” stressing that, it, MASSOB, has never posed any threat to Anambra election.

Uwazuruike was arrested by the Police in Zone 9 Umuahia on Wednesday.
