AWKA—TRADITIONAL worshipers in the industrial town of Nnewi and its environs have endorsed Governor Peter Obi for a second term in office with a promise to do everything humanly possible to ensure his reelection.
At their annual Odinana-Anaedo ceremony, all the traditional heads of the deities in Nnewi, Oraifite and Ichi town (the three towns constituting Ana-edo clan) called on the land and gods to make it possible for Obi to emerge in the February 6 election.
President of Odinana Anaedo Nnewi, Dr. Igwilo, explained that their reason for the endorsement was due to the Governor’s good work in Anambra State as a whole and Nnewi in particular since he assumed office in 2006.
Another reason the group gave was the fact that the leader of APGA, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who is the grand patron of the association and leader of Ndi Igbo had directed all Igbo in Anambra to vote for Obi, which he added, must be obeyed.
Igwilo said further that it took a long time for members to consult their deities and to arrive at the decision, adding that neither the Governor nor Ikemba Nnewi or their party was aware of the ceremony because they were not invited to the annual ceremony.
He, however, expressed surprise that many political parties sent emissaries to them during their consulting period, but added that the traditional institution can never be influenced by man or money.
