We’ll not support Amodu if…

Nigerian Coaches will drop their support for embattled colleague Amodu Shaibu, if he fails to deliver at the Nations Cup 2010 in Angola.

The coaches association after a meeting with the Nigeria Football Federation technical committee had strongly recommended Amodu to lead the Super Eagles to the Nations Cup and World Cup.

However, former Super Eagles coach Adegboyega Onigbinde hinted Saturday that the association will drop their support for Amodu if he fails to reach the final four of the Africa Cup of Nations starting Jan 10 in Angola.

“Let’s wait and see what he can do at the Nations Cup. If he fails then we can start looking for a new coach. BeAfrica. I don’t think it will come as a shock if Nigeria beat Argentina in the opening game,” Ossie who played in the 1978 and 1982 finals said in South Africa.

Argentina coach, Diego Maradona, played his last World Cup game against the Eagles at the USA’94 World Cup. He was not at the draws last Friday following his ban by FIFA.

Ardiles said Maradona was happy to avoid the big teams in Europe, but now the problem is the kind of team Argentina will present in South Africa 2010.

“The biggest problem is knowing which Argentina team will turn up at this tournament; the one the rest of the world would fear, or the one that struggled through the qualifying tournament.

“How will Diego Maradona cope in the finals? Well, who knows? With Diego, anything can happen, anything is possible.”
