By Emma Arubi
WARRI—THE people of Letugbene community in Ekeremo local government area of Bayelsa State have called on Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to urgently send relief materials and pay adequate compensation to the communities affected by the dredging caused by the grounding of an SPDC Mobile Oil Flow station barge.

The demand was contained in a petition signed by counsel to the communities, Dr. Charles M. Aribogha, and addressed to the General Manager, SPDC-West.

According to the petition, SPDC Mobile oil flow station that is on transfer from Port-Harcourt to Warri, through the Letugbene river, got grounded at the shallow river beach and as a result a dredger was brought in to dredge the shallow river bed to allow the big barge a free passage.

The communities alleged that the dredging has polluted their waters.
